Reason for the Season
Hello again everyone. I hope all of you had a magnificent Thanksgiving. Mine was filled with spending time with family and relishing the time away from the hassles of life. We enjoyed the traditional turkey, ham, dressing, rolls, mashed potatoes, green beans, etc. Not only is Thanksgiving an excellent time for family bonding, but it’s a time to remember all the blessings we have here in America. It is truly eye-opening when you sit back and look at all the advantages from which we benefit.
One thing for which I’ve been especially thankful during the past several months is the success of our football team. In my last entry, I left off after the first round of the playoffs; we have since played three more games. We won the next two and made it to the state-quarterfinals, where we lost on a last second field goal. It was very disappointing, but my teammates and I enjoyed every minute of the season and I know I will always remember it. Our final record was 13-1 and it was the best in school history. My final three-year record on varsity was very impressive: 36-6 including two trips to the quarterfinals and one to the semifinals. I don’t plan on playing at the next level — other than intramurals — but the experience was unforgettable. Now, after a few weeks of healing and relaxation, I look forward to baseball in the spring.
This December is full of events including my 18th birthday, semester finals, Christmas, and our family vacation. I find myself falling more rapidly into “senioritis.” Finals aren’t on my “looking forward-to list,” but I’ve been studying hard to finish out the semester strong. Our school makes exemptions available if students meet certain grade and attendance criteria, but my three upper level classes (English AP, College Algebra, and College Government) each require tests. The single week remaining before the Christmas holidays will definitely be full of activities.
A couple weeks ago, I received a very interesting accolade from my peers. Like most high schools, Frenship has senior class superlatives (Most Athletic, Most Likely to Succeed, etc.). The one that I received was rather unique… Best Person to Take Home to Parents! I must say I was amused when I found out. However, it is very honorable to be viewed essentially as the “most marriable.”
On a more serious note, I’m thinking about college admission tests. As I previously stated, I’m considering taking them again and have researched some possible dates. Recently, my peers have experienced double-scheduling. My advice? When you’re looking for a suitable day to take these critical tests, make sure you don’t have any prior commitments or conflicts. My friends found out that choosing between testing and something else is not a pleasant ordeal.
Hmmm…well it’s getting late at my house and I still have to finish studying for two tests tomorrow. It’s amazing how hectic the greatest time of the year can be. To all those traveling for the holidays, have safe travels and enjoy time with family and friends. Our enormous Chevy van will be loaded up and departing for both Arkansas and Virginia on the 19th. I’ll be in touch over the next couple of weeks. Until then, Merry Christmas and remember the Reason for the Season!
