A New Era
Wow. What a day. I’m writing this after spending most of the day watching the Presidential Inauguration. I was so happy that teachers allowed students to watch the events. Throughout the school, there was a feeling of hope and excitement for the future for both Republicans and Democrats.
President Obama has many problems to deal with as he enters office; I’m eager to see how he, his leadership team, and the country solve them. I’ve been texting back and forth to my friend who has been in D.C. since Saturday. I’m going to look for her at the Youth Ball on TV tonight — maybe I’ll catch her. I loved seeing the Obama children on television and look forward to watching them grow up during their White House years.
I’ve had several interviews these past weeks. I’ve found they get easier the more I have. It’s important to be comfortable with your interviewer, but still remain professional. Make sure to write thank-you notes, to show your appreciation for their time and effort. Come prepared to talk about yourself. You may feel like you are bragging, but interviews are the time to impress. Also, try to think of questions you will be asked. It helps to prepare this way, so you aren’t caught off guard.
I’m very excited because I’ve been accepted to two schools. It’s comforting to know that I have options, but I still want to see where else I’m accepted and then compare financial aid packages. Speaking of financial aid, my Dad and I have been working on the forms needed for each college. If you are applying for financial aid, check your college’s requirements. Most schools require the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid).
I went to a Buffalo Sabres hockey game this weekend with a friend and we won! Overall, the Sabres have been doing well. As for football, I’m looking forward to the Super Bowl, and the commercials, of course.
During the last two weeks, there have been record low outdoor temperatures where I live. There was hype that school would be cancelled because it was too cold to even go outside. Temperatures with wind chills dropped to 15 degrees below zero. Brrrr. Some schools cancelled classes, but not mine! We even started snow-shoeing in physical education. I had never done that in my four years of high school and it was actually fun. It is good to know that even as a senior, I can try new, exciting things and have different experiences. More and more, I’m starting to savor these last five months of high school.
