Firm Feet

The card is there, stuck in my bag, but at arms reach. I pull it out every couple of minutes and contemplate what it could mean. It bore a huge logo, The Monitor in shimmering blue, as well as the reporter’s name, number, fax. After listening to my interest in the paper, she plans on finding information on an internship for me. Well, now there’s a thought.

Lately, Mother Nature seems to be testing her powers. It’s been very cold here in The Rio Grande Valley, and I am not the least bit pleased. I guess I’m just not used to temperatures under 70°. Apart from that, school is going great, work is already hectic, and I’ve discovered something new, something I recently stumbled upon.

My friends, family, and most important, the photography instructor, have all seemed to agree that I have a natural knack for photography! As a yearbook staff member I’ve been exposed to many details and preferences when it comes to the photos we must choose to use. I love taking pictures; I make sure to capture at least one thing everyday. Perhaps that has inspired me in my decision to take photography courses as well.

I received my college class schedule. This semester I will take government and speech. I’m very excited. Not only am I getting two more of my basic classes out of the way, but I know that by being there I am saving money every single day, a fact that puts me ahead of the game. So that’s something I look forward to.

Also, I’ve been studying math. Yes, that’s right. I feel I need to be prepared for my college math classes since it’s such a touchy subject for me, so I’m attempting to get over the “no-math attitude” I used to have. I know that if I set my mind to it, I can keep it up.

I’ve finally contacted the reporter from The Monitor, the biggest newspaper in the Valley. She wants me to keep in touch with her as she finishes coordinating the internship for me. I’m ecstatic! I feel wonderfully lucky to have had the opportunity to come across her. That is something that I will surely be doing very soon. I’ll keep you posted.

Not everything around me is perfect. Like the weather, I too have my ups and downs, but a very wise person let me know that the best thing about the downs is that the only other way to go is up. So I’m ready to go up. I hope all of you don’t just give up when life shows you its not-so-good side.

Remember, shifty as things may be, feet firm on the ground shall never fall.
