Katy spent a year as a freelance writer after a brief internship at a non-denominational publishing house before moving to Washington D.C.

Born and raised in Cuba, Maria and her family moved to Miami, Florida when she was 14 years old. She attended a large public high school. While very involved in extracurricular activities, she also founded an organization to help other immigrants get admitted into top universities. After graduating in 2006, Maria now attends Harvard where she majors in history with a minor in Economics.  She is minority coordinator for the Harvard admissions office.
