You Still Have Options

I had a very close group of friends in middle school. We swore we would be best friends forever, but then we found ourselves going to completely different high schools. Some of us remained friends and some of us lost touch. In life everyone has different paths. Sometimes the paths with your friends just don’t seem to intersect. Read the rest of this entry »

Never Give Up

Spring means more than gorgeous flowers and nice, cool days to La Joya High’s Jewelettes. Competition season started this month and our dance team headed to South Padre Island’s Convention Center to compete against schools from all the Rio Grande Valley. Titles such as overall Grand Champions, and Division Winners for our Kick, Military, and Pom routines were bestowed on us. We were more than pleased with the results. The Kick routine, consisted of multiple kick sequences, combined with advanced dance technique; the Pom required pom-poms as props, and the Military routine conveyed more drill team movements than the other two.

Read the rest of this entry »

Deadline? What Deadline? Or, Remembering our Humanity

Recently I missed a deadline, an important deadline. It was the deadline for honors society applications, due at exactly 3:00 p.m. last Monday. I had the application and paperwork all ready; my error was that I forgot to turn it in before 3:00, and arrived at 4:00, which was, of course, too late. Well, time waits for no one, as they say. We’re All Different

It’s important to realize that everyone is different. Sometimes we compare ourselves with the people standing right next to us. But this can lead us to view ourselves in a dimmer light then them. We all want to go in the same direction, but it doesn’t mean we all need to take the same path. Read the rest of this entry »

Bigger and Brighter

The days seem brighter and the flowers are blooming (with the help of a few light showers here and there). Inside the walls of La Joya High School, seniors, including myself, scatter with excitement, worry, stress, and well, just about every other emotion we can think of. Panorama pictures (the epic senior class photo) have been taken, prom details are being dished out and last-minute graduation orders for cap and gown are on their way. Underclassmen are breaking pencils, getting ready for upcoming assessments. Read the rest of this entry »

Why Dartmouth?

Over the next couple weeks, most seniors will begin to hear back from the schools they applied to under regular decision programs. As the decisions come in, seniors will have to make the very big decision of where to spend the next four years of their lives. I hope that by going through my reasons for choosing to attend Dartmouth, I can aid those seniors hearing from schools in their process of choosing where to go.
