Topics of Study

In this program, you will study general plant science, including breeding, cultivation, and production of agricultural plants. You will focus on chemical, physical, and biological relationships of crops and soils, and study of rangelands and grasslands and principles of environmental balance. You will learn about the growth and behavior of agricultural crops, development of new plant varieties, and scientific management of soils and nutrients for plant nutrition, health, and productivity. Also instruction in plant pathology and physiology, and weed and crop science.

Degrees Available

• A career-technical certificate will qualify for work as an agricultural technologist specializing in breeding, cultivation, and production of agricultural plants.
• An associate or bachelor's degree prepares individuals to work as a crop chemist, environmental specialist, food and drug inspector, or in horticulture developing new varieties of plants.
• An advanced degree or specialized training may qualify for work in research, management, government, or higher education.
