Atmospheric Sciences & Meteorology
Topics of Study
In this program, you will study the atmosphere which surrounds Earth. You will learn about the composition and behavior of the atmosphere and how it affects our climate, weather, and environment. Course work specific to the major includes: physical meteorology, which deals with basic physical principles; dynamic meteorology, which deals with the study of air motions and the composition and behavior of weather; and synoptic meteorology, which combines information about basic dynamics and atmospheric physics in order to interpret daily weather.
Degrees Available
- A bachelor's degree is usually required to work in entry-level occupations related to weather forecasting.
- A graduate degree is required for both weather forecasting and for scientific research.
- A doctoral degree is required to teach in college, do independent research, or reach management positions.
