Topics of Study
In this program, you will study plant life, including development, anatomy, physiology, molecular biology, reproduction, and plant-related problems. You will learn about basic plant processes, such as pollination and photosynthesis, and study interrelationship of plant life and animal life; you will gain knowledge about the ability to grow sufficient food while maintaining enough forest areas to sustain a stable world climate. You will also learn about plant habitats and ecosystem relations. Your academic experience will include both lecture and laboratory classes.
Degrees Available
- A bachelor's degree is usually required to work in entry-level occupations in research laboratories for the government, in industry, or in education.
- A master's degree prepares individuals to work in occupations related to applied research and in some management positions, as well as in the fields of medicine and ecology.
- A doctoral degree is usually needed for college teaching, independent research, and administration.
- With an advanced degree you may work as a biochemist, biologist, botanist, ecologist, geneticist, or environmentalist.
